Genshin Impact’s character reveals are often one of the most highly anticipated parts of the lead-in to a new update to the breakout hit RPG. Developer miHoYo typically releases a full suite of stylized trailers leading up to the release of each of its new characters with different videos introducing their lore and gameplay. Shenhe’s newest trailer demonstrates many of her skills in combat and also sets up her relationship with another Liyue character in Chongyun.

The newest trailer, titled “Shenhe: Crane in the Wild,” shows Shenhe saving Chongyun from a surprise attack while pursuing an Abyss Mage through the mountainous regions of Liyue. The gameplay trailer shows off her graceful attack animations along with her heavy use of a Cryo avatar for many of her abilities. Shenhe will be a support-focused character with abilities that buff her and her allies’ normal attacks and deal Cryo damage, making her a good fit alongside some of the game’s popular Cryo DPS characters like Ayaka and Eula.
Chongyun also prominently features within the trailer with the interaction between the two near the end of the video also providing some context between the connection between the two. In the trailer’s conclusion, Chongyun recognizes Shenhe as being a fellow exorcist and refers to her near the end of the trailer as being his “auntie,” implying the two characters are related. Shenhe’s “mind be purged, world be saved” voice line during the trailer also bears a striking similarity to one of Chongyun’s voice lines already in Genshin Impact.
Shenhe won’t be the only new character joining Genshin Impact with the launch of the game’s 2.4 update as she was confirmed to be arriving to the game alongside another character, the Liyue opera singer Yun Jin. Yun Jin was officially revealed through a teaser during the 2021 Game Awards in December and was recently confirmed to be co-starring on Shenhe’s banner. With the 2.4 update also adding the Enkanomiya region and developer miHoYo seemingly confirming the long-awaited Yae Miko for the 2.5 update, Genshin Impact fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks.
Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is currently in development.
