Though as many in the community are aware, farming Artifacts in Genshin Impact is no easy task, especially since there isn’t enough resin to go around. There’s something to be said about how grinding Artifacts might be too tedious. It’s an aspect of the game that many in the community would like to see altered.

Artifact Farming in Genshin Impact

There are five distinct types of Artifacts in Genshin Impact: the Flower, the Plume, the Sands, the Goblet, and the Circlet. To build a character to its fullest potential, the player must acquire all five of these Artifacts, each with specific stats that lend well to the character’s playstyle. For instance, many support characters scale with the HP stat, while DPS characters benefit from Crit Rate and Crit Damage.

While the goal of Artifact farming is relatively simple, the process is less straightforward. To acquire the pieces of a specific Artifact Set, players must defeat bosses or complete Domains in Genshin Impact. Doing so doesn’t guarantee the Artifact they need, however. Each completed run grants only one Gold/5-Star Artifact (that is, for players above AR 45), meaning one of the five Artifact types upon completion. The fact that bosses and Domains are assigned two different Artifact Sets further muddies the chances of getting the right one.

But assuming that a player was to acquire the exact Artifact they needed, this still wouldn’t be the end of the RNG game. This is because each Artifact has a Main Stat and a set of Sub-stats. The Flower and the Plume always have the same Main Stat, but the others vary. There’s even greater variation in Sub-stats as they’re randomly upgraded as the Artifact is leveled up. As such, Artifact farming in Genshin Impact is a constant grind in hopes of getting the perfect set of stats for each piece.

How HoYoverse Could Make the Artifact Farming Easier

The sheer amount of luck required to get the optimal set is what makes Genshin Impact’s Artifact system so burdensome. Players often grind day after day for months and only get subpar Artifacts for their characters. It’s no wonder, then, that the community is hoping for a change in the Artifact system.

The solution to this issue is to give players more power in deciding what Artifacts they’ll acquire and their stats. That said, there are a number of ways HoYoverse can implement this. For one, the developer could allow players to choose what Artifact set they’re trying to get before they even start with a boss or Domain. For instance, with the Slumbering Court Domain in Genshin Impact, players can focus on getting the best stats for the Husk of Opulent Dreams set instead of constantly getting the Ocean-Hued Clam set.

Another idea is to introduce a rerolling option for Artifact stats. It should work like the Genshin Impact Dust of Azoth with Character Ascension materials or the Dream Solvent with Weekly Boss drops. Thus, players can acquire a specific item that allows them to change the Main Stat or Sub-stats of their chosen Artifact. Though this adds another layer of RNG to the mix, it gives players a chance to salvage an Artifact that would otherwise be used as fodder for the next half-decent one.

Artifact Strongboxes are the closest Genshin Impact has to rerolling Artifact stats. Though instead of rerolling specific stats, Strongboxes take three 5-Star Artifacts in return for one new Artifact. The developer intends to add more options to the Artifact Strongboxes feature, but this doesn’t seem to be enough to make the grind easier. Perhaps one day, HoYoverse will add more quality-of-life options for Artifact farming.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, and a Nintendo Switch version is in development.
