After encountering the Aranara race in Genshin Impact and completing a series of quests, Reddit user u/Gregamonster compiled information regarding the interactions between Paimon and the spirits. Various characters throughout Genshin Impact’s main story and side quests noticed that Paimon is not a normal human, including the Aranara race. In fact, Kaedehara Kazuha once said Paimon has “the essence of the stars.” The Aranara share a similar sentiment for Paimon and simply refer to her as an entity rather than a human like the Traveler.

Aranara call humans “Nara” whereas Paimon is directly referred to by her name according to u/Gregamonster. Arana, an Aranara NPC, refers to the village children as Nara as well. Although human characters within Genshin Impact simply accept Paimon as a normal person, the Aranara seem to place emphasis on distinguishing Paimon from other humans and races. As a result, some players began to infer that the Aranara must know Paimon is not human like normal Teyvat inhabitants.

Paimon is theorized to be a Moon Sister or a reincarnation due to her unique, cosmic appearance. The Aranyaka quest NPC, Arama, refers to Paimon as a “silver being like the moon in the sky.” The Aranara are well-known for their wisdom in Sumeru, and the spirits are believed to hold knowledge about Teyvat spanning thousands of years. Additionally, the Aranara know about the tragic history of the Seelies dating back to the existence of the Moon Sisters.

The Aranara may hold valuable information for the Traveler and Paimon alike as they continue their journey across Teyvat. The duo continue to pursue the truth behind Khaenri’ah, the Traveler’s sibling, and the Fatui’s actions across the world. Before the Traveler and Paimon must venture out of Sumeru, the Aranara should play a pivotal role in deciding the characters’ next steps. The Aranyaka world quests may have been divisive, but the lore surrounding the Aranara is worth exploring.

Future Genshin Impact updates could shed light on Paimon’s true nature, but it could take years before the full truth is laid out for the player. Genshin Impact is a long-term project for developer HoYoverse, and the world of Teyvat will continue to expand through new updates.

Genshin Impact is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. A Nintendo Switch version is in development with no confirmed release date.
