Fan theories and speculation surrounding the sky over Teyvat being fake have been one of the most long-running ideas in Genshin Impact, dating back to shortly after the game’s launch. Reference to Teyvat’s “fake sky” was first made by Scaramouche during one of the game’s first events, Version 1.1’s Unreconciled Stars. The theory has been a prevalent one in many of the game’s stories related to the Fatui, particularly being referenced by the organization’s Harbingers. Now, one fan has put forward an idea of how Teyvat’s fake sky may function.

A post to the Genshin Impact subreddit by user Helloimnewer showcases a diagram theorizing the potential layout of Teyvat in relation to the fake sky. The image depicts Teyvat as a ring surrounding the spherical fake sky located overhead with a fake Sun and Moon, as well as reflections of real stars. The user suggests the fake sky rotates itself with Teyvat remaining stationary, simulating day-and-night cycles within the game’s world. The diagram also implies the Spiral Abyss may, in fact, rise outside the world of Teyvat, surrounded by the tree that produces Genshin Impact’s ley lines.

The world design of Teyvat has been a common point of speculation among fans of Genshin Impact. Some fan theories have suggested that the Fatui may not be as evil an organization as the player is led to believe. Others have posited wild revelations to come later, suggesting that Klee’s mother, Alice, might be in another dimension and players may one day visit the Abyss. Some have even speculated Paimon may be the Unknown God who separated the siblings.

While Genshin Impact’s story still clearly has plenty of content left in store, each new story addition has continued to add more intriguing details to the world of Teyvat. The events of Version 3.2’s story played a major role in reshaping the world of Genshin Impact, leaving a lasting impact on the game’s overall storytelling and lore. Fans have also noticed several similarities in each of the Archon’s stories so far, sharing similar elements in their progression and thematics. With multiple regions left to explore, Genshin Impact’s world and lore will continue to grow with each new update.

Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
